When I first started asking questions about family history (late 1990s), my aunt, Luella (Munroe) Bates, mentioned that she was related to the Bates family somehow, aside from her marriage to my uncle, Clifford Bates. Confirming The Birth Year For Mary Udell
Mary Udell was my 2nd great grandmother. She was first married to Daniel Emery, and then somewhere around 1839 she married my Gilbert Bates. There appears to be no information as to what happened to Daniel. I have in my records July 20, 1811, as the date of her birth, calculated from her death certificate. My father, Edgar Bates, passed away in 1992 at the age of 79. As I was going through his things, I began to realize how little I knew about his early life and his family history.
