In this post I will be taking a look at an archive relating to Gilbert Bates’ application for veteran’s pension benefits for the War of 1812. He filed the application in early 1880. The conflict lasted from June 18, 1812, to February 18, 1815, and Gilbert stated that he served sometime in 1814.
